Crystal
Solutions Verifies CID at IBC
20 August, 2014
Crystal Solutions will be demonstrating its
Carrier ID (CID) Detection System at IBC.
With the recently announced World Broadcasting Unions –
International Satellite Operators Group (WBU-ISOG)
Resolutions, all Uplinkers will be required to include
CID for all SCPC and MCPC video and data transmissions
by January 2018. The Crystal CID Detection System will
enable them to adhere to those requirements by verifying
that their Carrier ID is on the air and correctly
displaying its CID info.
Carrier ID is an extremely efficient way of mitigating
satellite interference when it occurs. By ensuring all
transmissions contain CID, operators will be able to
quickly and efficiently identify the source of
interference and therefore solve the issue almost
instantaneously. Therefore, for Broadcasters and
Uplinkers, being able to verify their ID also ensures
that the process during any interference instances will
be as smooth as possible, with the least impact on their
services.
The Crystal CID Detection System utilizes a Crystal CID
System Controller as the core of the system, directing
the equipment and managing the CID detection process.
All identification events are logged with precise
timestamps, which can be used in the case of dispute
resolution.
The system is also valuable for Satellite Access Centers
and Satellite Operators for automatically identifying
carriers they control, as well as populating the central
CID database with those IDs.
“Many Broadcasters and Uplinkers are still unsure of
Carrier ID and what is entailed, although they may have
it already available in their systems and simply need to
activate it,” commented Roger Franklin, CEO, Crystal
Solutions. “Our system gives them an invaluable
overview, enabling automatic, accurate and fast
identification, without the need for the assembly of
multiple pieces of equipment when interference occurs.”
Martin Coleman, Executive Director, the Satellite
Interference Reduction Group (IRG) commented, “I am
excited that Crystal Solutions is making CID detection
accessible to all for a variety of different use cases.
Giving satellite users this capability will help further
improve the process, make interference resolution more
efficient, and ultimately help those users to achieve
efficient operations with uninterrupted services.”
