The Government of Hungary and Thales Alenia Space sign an agreement for space cooperation

November 16, 2021

Thales Alenia Space has signed an agreementwith the Hungarian Government concerning a cooperation to contribute to the development of the space industry sector in Hungary.

The agreement has been signed today during the visit of a Hungarian delegation to the Thales Alenia Space plant in Cannes. The delegation was led by H.E. Mr Péter Szijjártó, Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade and by Hervé Derrey, CEO of Thales Alenia Space.

This agreement is part of the Hungarian Government's plan to increase Hungary's economic development through the development of high value-added sectors, such as the space industry, support for research and development, and the encouragement of international cooperation in this field. In this respect, the space industry was raised in 2020 by the Hungarian government to the "Industries of the Future" in the Economic Protection Action Plan.

The aim of this agreement is to strengthen the collaboration between Hungary and Thales Alenia Space to foster the business relationship in a spirit of mutual trust and benefits. The agreement strengthens the fruitful cooperation started by Thales Alenia Space with Hungarian companies which have developed new products addressing the space market and which are now integrated in its supply chain.

This collaboration with Thales Alenia Space will also contribute to the increase of the professional qualifications of the Hungarian workforce and thus to the development of the Hungarian space industry's competencies.

"We would like to warmly thank the Hungarian Government for entrusting us with this mission. Today’s agreement marks the first important step in an ambitious partnership between Thales Alenia Space and the Hungarian Government to enable joint developments of satellite technologies in the fields of telecommunications and Earth Observation and Science," said Hervé Derrey, President and CEO of Thales Alenia Space.
