Eutelsat Renews Complaints on Deliberate Jamming and Appeals for Action to the International Telecommunication Union

12 February 2010

Eutelsat Communications renewed its complaint to the ANFR (the French national frequency agency) about repeated and deliberate interference targeting satellite transmissions by television and radio channels that include BBC Persian Television, the Voice of America Television Channel in Persian, the Radio Farda service of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, and Deutsche Welle's Television and Radio services.

Today’s complaint, officially channelled through the EUTELSAT International Intergovernmental Organisation, specifically asks the ANFR to renew its objection to this interference to the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), and for this case to be addressed at the next meeting of the Radiocommunications Regulations Board, scheduled in March. Eutelsat asks that its complaint be addressed by the ITU as a priority issue.

This call for action to French and international regulatory authorities follows appeals made by Eutelsat since May 2009 to put an end to this interference.
