GolTV has secured a multi-year deal to broadcast live matches from Liga NOS, Portugal’s top soccer league also known as Primeira Liga. The new agreement gives GolTV exclusive rights to all of Liga NOS matches in both English and Spanish language, commencing in August with the start of the 2017/18 soccer season.
Under the new contract, GolTV will broadcast more live weekly matches -- approximately 150 per season -- including those from the Liga NOS “big three” teams: Benfica FC, Porto and Sporting CP.
GolTV has been airing the home matches of Benfica, the league’s top-ranking team since 2014. The new, expanded programming is in response to growing audience demand.
“We are very excited about the new upcoming Liga NOS season and the expansion of our partnership,” said Rodrigo Lombello, CEO of GolTV. “Our viewers will soon be able to watch all of their favorite teams and match-ups on GolTV. We’ve become the go-to network for all Portuguese soccer fans.”
In recent months the network also has bolstered its other Portuguese soccer properties, adding the Portuguese Cup and the Portuguese League Cup to the programming roster.
“GolTV has always been a live sports broadcast leader, constantly bringing value and top ranking content to their media partners and viewers at home,” said Nuno Ferreira, Director of Programming of SportTV Portugal. “We are thrilled to have GolTV onboard as the new home of the Liga NOS.”
Liga NOS has been increasing its world soccer status over the last few years, recently ranking seventh in the UEFA league rankings.
In addition, the league’s growing popularity among Hispanic audiences is an especially important element for GolTV. In particular, Mexican soccer fans have been attracted to Liga NOS because several key Mexican players and former Liga MX stars.
