Thaicom Launches
C-Band MCPC
Broadcast Platform
for Content
Distribution in
Africa Signs
Agreement with
Teleport Partner
ISAT Africa
29 November 2016
Thaicom Public
Company Limited has
signed a contract
with iSAT Africa—a
fast growing
Broadcasting, Data
and Internet service
provider with
teleports in Africa
and Europe—to expand
its C-band Multi
Channel Per Carrier
(MCPC) broadcast
platform and service
into Africa. The
service will
facilitate
distribution of TV
channels on the
THAICOM 6 satellite.
The MCPC broadcast
platform enables
Thaicom to expand
its broadcast
services in Africa
from the THAICOM 5
to the THAICOM 6
satellite at the
company’s 78.5° East
prime video
neighbourhood. The
platform is a
cost-effective
solution for African
and international
broadcasters
requiring to develop
their content
distribution across
Sub-Saharan Africa.
Teleport operator
iSAT Africa will
provide ground and
uplink services for
the MCPC broadcast
platform from its
facility in Nairobi,
East Africa.
“Our MCPC broadcast
platform offers TV
Channels from across
the globe a complete
end-to-end solution
for delivering their
content to viewers
in Sub-Saharan
Africa,” said
Patompob (Nile)
Suwansiri, Chief
Commercial Officer,
Thaicom. "The MCPC
broadcast platform
supports entry for
new channel carriers
and complements our
growing portfolio of
content distribution
solutions. We are
very pleased to
welcome iSAT Africa
as our teleport
partner to help us
in our mission to
provide channel
carriers the
opportunity to reach
new audiences in
Africa.”
“We are pleased to
partner with Thaicom
who is one of the
leading satellite
operators in the
world. Our partnered
MCPC platform over
C-band, further
enhances our
services and
provides yet another
unique Broadcasting
solution to our
existing and new
Media customers. The
content will be
directly uplinked
from our teleport in
Kenya to offer local
presence of
international
standards to the
global broadcast
market,” said Rakesh
Kukreja, Managing
Director, iSAT
Africa. “We expect
this to quickly
become a key video
neighborhood for
broadcasters in
Africa.”
Thaicom’s MCPC media
platform is based on
DVB-S modulation and
MPEG-2 compression
technology, and can
be received with
small antenna sizes
in much of its
coverage area thanks
to the THAICOM 6
satellite’s high
power C-band beam.
