Isotropic
Systems
Limited
(ISL)
secured an
additional
$1M
in funding
to
revolutionize
satellite
antenna
technology
for high
throughput
connectivity
in mobility
markets. ISL
will design
and develop
antennas
that address
the most
common
operational
challenges
- efficiency,
cost, form
factor and
durability.
"As advances
in high
throughput
satellites
and
constellations
continue to
drive demand
for high
capacity
data on the
move, a new
range of low
profile
antennas,
with no
moving
parts,
exceptional
spectral
efficiency,
at low price
prices is
required,"
said
Dan DiFonzo,
Chief
Technology
Officer,
ISL.
"However,
existing
antennas,
such as
phased array
and
metamaterial
antennas
continue to
lack
spectral
and/or power
efficiency,
scalability,
to meet the
business
requirements
for the
mobility
sector."
ISL's
antenna will
be the first
truly
'broadband'
low-profile
antenna with
fully
electronic
beam
steering,
easily
scalable to
effective
apertures
and can be
designed to
match almost
any desired
form factor.
Designed for
satellite
broadcast,
VSAT,
microwave,
multipoint
wireless and
5G broadband
communications,
the antennas
are low cost
and have no
moving parts
to adhere to
the
stability
requirements
of mobility.
ISL will
initially
focus on
broadcast
and VSAT
applications
in the
satellite
industry,
partnering
with the
world's
leading
scientists
and
engineers in
the field of
antenna
design,
further
refining
ISL's
scientific
discoveries
that hold
the promise
of a new
paradigm in
antenna
performance.
"We are
thrilled to
be a part of
developing
game-changing
technology
that will
revolutionize
the
satellite
industry and
much more,"
said
Robert
Dooner,
Director of
Waterlow
Management.
"We are
confident in
not only the
technology,
but also the
pedigree and
experience
of the
world's
leading
experts on
the ISL
technical
team led
Prof.
Yang Hao
at Queen
Mary
University,
London,
in this new
approach to
antenna
design.
ISL's solid
understanding
of the
market and
business
challenges
matched with
its state of
the art
facilities
will define
the roadmap
for the most
innovative
commercial
products in
the
industry."
"The core of
our
technology
is the
adaptable
form factor,
simple
manufacturing
and
significantly
lower cost,"
said
Dan DiFonzo.
"This will
enable users
to access a
wide variety
of mobile,
portable and
fixed
satellite
services
going well
beyond the
capabilities
of existing
antenna
solutions."
