10 February 2016

Another milestone was achieved by the Nigerian Communications Satellite (NIGCOMSAT) Limited when on Wednesday, February 10, 2016 a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed with the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) which is aimed at strengthening the use of satellite applications in social service delivery to the nation especially the rural populace. The event took place at the Secretariat of NGF in Abuja.

The Acting Director General of the Forum, Alhaji L. O. T. Shittu signed on behalf of NGF while Ms Abimbola Alale, the Managing Director/Chief Executive of NIGCOMSAT signed on behalf of the company. Ms Alale was accompanied by some key officials of the company that included the General Manager Business/Marketing, Engr. Shehu Kaura and Mrs. Alma Okpalefe, head of Legal Unit.

Ms Alale thanked the NGF for recognizing the whole project as presented to the forum which is people oriented. She said “With such projects, we would be able to deliver social welfare programmes to all Nigerians most especially the rural people through the NGF using our developmental partners. I pray that signing of this MoU will lead us (NIGCOMSAT & NGF) to doing greater service to humanity”.

Alhaji Shittu on his part stated that “We will ensure that dividend of democracy is taken to the people using your platform. We will not let you down and I hope this relationship will grow”.

Key aspects of coverage in the MoU include broadband penetration in states which is hoped to reach as many Nigerians as possible thereby bridging the digital gap among states.

E-learning and telemedicine are also areas of concentration due to challenges faced by the sectors for quite some time now
