Comtech EF Data
Corp., was awarded $1.2
million in follow on
orders for
infrastructure
equipment. A Mobile
Network Operator (“MNO”)
will utilize the
equipment to support a
satellite mobile
backhaul network
expansion in Africa and
high-speed trunking
links in Asia.
The CDM-625A Advanced
Satellite Modems will be
installed in Africa to support a
mobile network infrastructure
upgrade that will allow enhanced
services to be deployed cost
effectively with the target of
increasing subscriber base and
minimizing subscriber churn.
This latest entrant in the
mid-range modem category
provides the robust
multi-dimensional IP traffic
optimization capabilities
required to intelligently and
efficiently utilize space
segment resources. The modem’s
ability to support 3G services
within the same satellite
bandwidth as existing 2G
services enables mobile
operators within Africa to
control costs while providing
the differentiated services that
3G brings to its end users.
The CDM-760 Advanced
High-Speed Trunking Modem
features ultra-wide band symbol
rates and near theoretical
performance with minimal
implementation loss. This
high-end modem was designed to
be the most efficient, highest
throughput point-to-point
trunking modem available. It
accommodates demanding trunking
links of up to 628 Mbps duplex
by offering users an advanced
combination of space segment
saving capabilities while
minimizing the need for
unnecessary overhead, a
necessity in today’s competitive
communications landscape.
The CDM-760 will be utilized
in conjunction with the FX-4010
WAN Optimization platform to
support high-speed trunking
links in Asia. While the CDM-760
provides the mobile operator
with the efficiency and
horsepower required to support
the large traffic flows that
traverse the satellite links,
the FX Series provides the
intelligence needed to properly
handle the IP traffic by
monitoring the WAN and
classifying, shaping and
prioritizing network traffic to
ensure an ideal flow. As
packet-based content continues
to dominate today’s
communication systems, traffic
shaping, the engine that enables
the transmission of the highest
“value” traffic during
congestion, is becoming a system
level requirement for all
network topologies. In addition,
the FX-4010 WAN Optimization
platform further reduces the
amount of data transmitted over
links via compression and
caching schemes, and
acceleration mechanisms.
Fred Kornberg, President and
Chief Executive Officer of Comtech
Telecommunications Corp.,
commented, “This MNO is an
existing Comtech customer.
Adopting our next generation
products to support their
network infrastructure is
acknowledgment of the additional
value our latest technologies
can provide.”
