O3b
Networks and Timor
Telecom (TT) have
announced Timor Telecom
has gone live on O3b’s
unique ‘Fiber in the
Sky’ satellite network.
This follows the May 14
announcement that the
Portugal Telecom
subsidiary had agreed a
deal with O3b to
bring high throughput,
low latency capacity to
Timor-Leste.
As a
one of the first to
connect to the O3b
network, Timor Telecom
is now able to provide
customers with a high
speed broadband service
for the first time,
improving user
experience and allowing
for more and better
services and content.
The
use of O3b satellites,
which are closer to the
earth than conventional
geostationary
satellites, reduces
latency, increases
Internet speed and
improves voice and video
quality for the user.
Gerardo
Carrilho Ângelo, CTO of
Timor Telecom said:
‘We
are delighted to be up
on the O3b network. TT
is constantly investing
in technology innovation
and supplying new
services and products
that meet the needs of
its clients. Indeed, the
new service is so good
that customers have been
calling our helpline,
wondering what has
happened!’
John Finney, Chief
Commercial Officer of
O3b said:
“Timor-Leste is another
example of O3b bringing
broadband to
under-served areas of
the world. This is a big
topic at the moment and
we are leading the way
in making it happen.
Our network
is working fantastically
well and we are looking
forward to bringing more
customers up as soon as
possible.”
