Spacecom and Magyar Telekom Sign New Long-Term Agreement for More Bandwidth Over AMOS Fleet

3 September 2012

Spacecom has signed a follow-on, long-term contract with Magyar Telekom, the principal provider of telecommunications services in Hungary, worth up to $7 million. Spacecom will supply the provider’s T-Home SatTV DTH (direct-to-home) service with more bandwidth enabling Magyar Telekom to expand the number of channels it broadcasts and create new bouquets to increase its rapidly growing customer base.

Magyar Telekom, a subsidiary of Deutsche Telekom, broadcasts over 100 channels throughout Hungary and Slovakia including seven in HD and one in 3D. Collectively, Magyar Telekom's T-Home SatTV in Hungary and its MagioTV platform in Slovakia are using a total of 216MHz on the AMOS fleet at the 4°W orbital position. In recent years, Magyar Telekom has expanded its relationship with Spacecom with deals valued up to $14 million.

“This extension with AMOS will enable us to develop and grow our popular platform. The broadcasting market in Hungary is on track to continue its expansion, and together with AMOS we will be able to bring more HD channels and add further services to meet the market's increasing needs,” remarked Balazs Birck, Head of the Product Development Department at Magyar Telekom.

We are proud to support and be a part of T-Home’s success in Hungary. Working with Magyar Telekom has produced great results for the AMOS brand in Hungary and across Central and Eastern Europe," said Eyal Altshuler, Spacecom’s vice president of sales, CEE. “Hungary is a strong and important market for Spacecom and this new long-term agreement shows our belief in its future."

The AMOS satellite fleet at the 4°W orbital position serves three European DTH brands and four in total, including: Ukraine’s Xtra; Slovakia’s MagioTV and Hungary’s T-Home SatTV – both part of the Deutsche Telekom Group; and Israel’s Yes.
