Globalstar Europe: SPOT Satellite GPS Messenger Added To Compulsory Fire Service Safety Kit in Spain

November 28 2011

Globalstar Europe Satellite Services Ltd., announced that the Madrid Fire Service have made the SPOT Satellite GPS Messenger™ a required device for their fire fighters to carry in the field.

The SPOT Satellite GPS Messenger™ sends predefined location-based messages over the Globalstar satellite network, providing GPS waypoints and emergency assistance when needed. As part of the new Fleet Management and Personal Safety solution "FENIX", specifically designed for the Community of Madrid Forest Fire Brigades, SPOT technology will assist with the tracking and safety of deployed fire fighters.

On 14 of October, the developers of FENIX, FCC INDUSTRIAL (FCC Group), and MATINSA, its subsidiary specializing in forest fire prevention and extinguishing services, conducted a practical demonstration of FENIX assisted by Regina Planiol, Justice Minister of the Community of Madrid, at the Center of Operations for the Buitrago de Lozoya.

Regina Planiol explained "As there is little or no mobile phone coverage in many rural parts of Spain, the great advantage of FENIX is the usage of satellite technology via the SPOT Messenger. SPOT provides reliable, proven technology 24 hours per day, 356 days per year. This solution will be distributed across all fire brigades participating in the 2012 Forest Fire campaign."

"FENIX, with the help of SPOT technology, provides dependable tracking and security management for fire brigades in Spain," said Antonio Prego, Systems Division Director at the FCC INDUSTRIAL. "Incorporating the lightweight SPOT Messenger device into the FENIX fleet management kit now makes available a personalised, global tracking solution helping keep fire fighters safe while working."
