Yahsat Appoints Tareq Al Hosani as CEO


Yahsat a private joint stock company fully owned by Mubadala, has named Tareq AbdulRaheem Al Hosani as its Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

Tareq - who has played an integral role in the development of Yahsat and prior to his promotion to CEO, was previously employed as Yahsat's Executive Director, Corporate Strategy and Business Development - takes over after Jassem Mohamed Al Zaabi who has become a Yahsat board member. Jassem will continue to work closely with Yahsat management team from his position as the Executive Director of Mubadala's Information Communication Technology (ICT) unit.

Talking on his new appointment, Al Hosani said: "I am looking forward to taking on this exciting new opportunity and on behalf of everyone at Yahsat I would like to extend my gratitude for Jassem's dedicated service and contribution.

"This is a very exciting time for Yahsat as we finalise our preparations for the launch of our second satellite Y1B; we are also progressing our commercial operations in Africa, Middle East and Central Asia. All of which is supporting our vision to be the leading satellite communications operator in the region through our optimum user solutions and partnership approach," he added.

Jassem Mohamed Al Zaabi said: "I have had the privilege of being part of Yahsat's innovative team from inception and we have achieved so many notable and successful milestones, including the launch of the Y1A satellite. Yahsat's success is a testament to its shareholder's vision to create a ground breaking satellite communications company.

"I am pleased to announce that Tareq Al Hosani is the new  Yahsat CEO. I am very confident that Tareq, with his expertise in the field of satellite communications and his dedication and professional integrity, will continue leading the company's dynamic growth and evolution as it prepares to significantly expand its operations," he concluded.

Launched in 2007, Yahsat designed the region's first multi-purpose satellite system, based on extensive interaction with customers and research into their communications needs and aspirations. In April 2011, Yahsat launched its first satellite, Y1A, and working on the launch of its second satellite, Y1B, which is planned for the first quarter of 2012.
