Spacecom Makes Significant AMOS-5 Ku-band and C-band Capacity Pre-Sale: Deal Worth $12.5M
21 June 2011
Spacecom has pre-sold capacity on the AMOS-5’s Ku-band and C-band beams to an existing client, a leading Southern African Internet technology provider. The agreement is valued at U.S. $12.5 Million. AMOS-5 is scheduled to be launched to 17°E and begin commercial operations later in 2011 with both pan-African C-band and Ku-band capacity.
Spacecom’s existing client will be adding to its current capacity and utilize its AMOS-5 capacity for a variety of VSAT services and broadband backbone to service the financial and general enterprise sectors, among others, in its Southern African region.
“AMOS-5 will provide excellent solutions for our clients with superb Ku- and C-band coverage to support business operations throughout this region in Africa,” reported Eyal Copitt, senior vice president of sales at Spacecom.
“The market for Ku-band is growing in Africa because technology has greatly negated rain interference challenges and has also brought down customers’ initial setup costs. AMOS-5’s orbital position at 17°E will provide superb signal strength to answer broadcasters’ needs, as well as those of the data market throughout Africa. We are encouraging pre-launch sales to enable our
customers to be ready the moment commercial operations begin later in 2011.”
