Hughes Europe and CLA Team Up to Support the Rural Economy by Demonstrating Affordable ‘Broadband for All’

19 May 2011

Hughes Europe, and the Country Land and Business Association (CLA) have announced a new initiative to demonstrate how satellite technology can provide rural communities with effective, affordable broadband for the first time.

At a series of county shows in South West England, Hughes Europe will enable those visiting the CLA stand to gain first-hand experience of satellite broadband by providing a solar-powered, two-workstation Internet café for visitors to access websites and send emails.

“Thanks to the latest Ka-band satellite technology, we are able to provide robust and viable broadband which meets the needs of more remote areas of the UK not served by DSL or cable solutions,” says Christopher Britton, managing director, Hughes Europe.

The CLA has a membership of more than 28,000 small- and medium-sized businesses (SMBs), 25 percent of whom do not have access to broadband. The Hughes initiative is designed to support the CLA’s drive to “put the ‘e’ back in the rural economy,” by helping those areas commercially disadvantaged by a lack of broadband availability.

Britton stated, “This solution means that everyone can benefit equally from high-performance, affordable broadband—and its available now.”

Hughes Europe will demonstrate satellite broadband services on the CLA stand at the following shows:

·         Devon County Show, Exeter, 19-21 May 2011
·         Royal Bath and Wells Show, Shepton Mallet, 1-4 June 2011
·         Royal Cornwall Show, Wadebridge, 9-11 June 2011
