Elektrikom contracts capacity at 1°West for maritime VSAT services

Telenor announced that it has signed an agreement with Elektrikom for satellite capacity from its 1°West orbital location.  

Utilising TSBc’s IS 10-02 Spot 1 capacity, Elektrikom will manage and deliver maritime VSAT services, serving the oil, gas and cruising vessels throughout Europe.

We look forward to building a long term relationship with Elektrikom and supporting their growth requirements utilising Spot 1 capacity- ideal for their coverage requirements throughout Europe”, said Michael Carter, Sales Director, Datacomms Services at TSBc. “1°West has a strong tradition within the maritime industry for the provision of maritime VSAT services, specifically in Northern Europe. With our next satellite, THOR 7, due to commence commercial service in 2014, TSBc  can now provide an expansion path for our maritime customers and support the increased types of services demanded by offshore communities” 

“The additional capacity on IS 10-02 Spot 1 will be used for maritime VSAT services , providing shipping vessels , specifically in the Mediterranean , with much needed capacity to support additional broadband communication services, demanded by crew to stay connected at all times, whilst at sea”, said Andre Eerland , CEO of  Elektrikom. “This is the first contract we have signed with TSBc and look forward to working with them in the very near future to grow our capacity requirements at 1°West”. 

IS 10-02 Spot 1 provides high powered coverage throughout Europe and provides expansion capacity in some of Elektrikom’s key shipping regions.
