Globecomm Maritime Completes Major Implementation Milestone with Leading Operator

March 21, 2011

Globecomm Systems Inc. has completed a maritime milestone, installing its 100th se@COMM system for the customer Briese Schiffahrts.

The se@COMM system and Satlink Inmarsat FB250 FleetBroadband terminal were supplied and installed by Telaurus, a Globecomm company, on the 2008-built combination carrier BBC Jade in March 2011, two years after Briese became the first company in Europe to fit FleetBroadband FB150 on its coastal vessel Saxum.

The migration to FleetBroadband using the se@COMM system involved the replacement of Briese’s legacy communications and email messaging system, reflecting greater volumes of critical data traffic and the need for transparency in managing the cost of ship-shore messaging.

Holger Boerchers Briese Schiffahrts IT manager said: "The fleetwide transition towards se@COMM and Fleet Broadband has been a long process that needed great commitment and professionalism from all those involved. We are pleased to have achieved the 100th installation after working so closely with Globecomm Maritime and look forward to a continuing collaboration with them."

Malcolm McMaster, VP Globecomm Maritime and President Telaurus Communications, said: "Our work with Briese is a great example of how a long-term collaboration can generate real savings and efficiencies across a fleet. Briese’s move towards broadband demonstrates their desire to lead the trend in maritime communications, and teaming that with se@COMM allows them to keep control of costs, with a powerful, flexible product."
