7 February 2011

CETel (Central European Telecom Services), the German Teleport & Satellite Service Provider, has entered into an agreement to acquire SeaMobile Europe. Closing of the transaction is expected to occur in March 2011.

SeaMobile Europe, a company of the SeaMobile Inc. family, is well-known for its broad product portfolio of satellite services comprising of Geolink, VSAT, Iridium and Inmarsat satellite services for governmental, corporate and maritime businesses. The company has an excellent reputation in the African region, especially in the French speaking markets. Within these regions, SeaMobile is a key supplier of satellite-based communications services for NGOs, government institutions, oil and gas, and mining companies. With this imminent acquisition, CETel will expand its service portfolio and customer base to consolidate its market position in Africa and the Middle East as well as in the mobile and maritime business.

The acquisition will allow CETel to combine the expertise of both companies and to provide customers with strong system integration capabilities and best-in-class end-to-end solutions. Furthermore, it will further strengthen their position in the Middle East and African markets. The migration of all involved services and personnel is expected to be finished by the end of the second quarter this year.

“We are very happy about this acquisition and broader cooperation as this strengthens our portfolio, particularly for integrated end-to-end solutions. At the same time, we are extending our core business with additional important services and state-of-the-art technologies“, states Martin Terlunen, Managing Director and co-founder of CETel.

The acquisition will represent an expansion of the expertise of two key service providers well established in the European, Middle East and African regions, in an effort to develop and further provide competitive, reliable and quality turnkey satellite solutions.

CETel's portfolio will be enlarged by the following services:

  • Network Design & VSAT Operation in the oil, gas & mining industry
  • Maritime Satellite Services
  • Mobile application services with Inmarsat & Iridium
  • Advanced TDMA Solutions

"With CETel, we found the right partner with existing Teleport infrastructure in Europe to take over our European Operations, which will allow SeaMobile Europe to expand and to improve their services with a great benefit for their existing and future customers worldwide,” said Bradford C. Briggs, Senior Vice President and General Manager of MTN’s Commercial Shipping & Energy Services business, and President of SeaMobile Europe. “At the same time, SeaMobile Inc. and MTN can further concentrate on their core markets and services within the global maritime communications area."

“This agreement will mark the continuation of collaboration between two leading independent players in the satellite industry,” says Guido Neumann, Managing Director and co-founder of CETel. “With the combined expertise of our two organizations, we expect to deliver significant advances to our customers and the global communications marketplace. In addition, the forthcoming acquisition of SeaMobile Europe and migration of its services with about 1.000 contracted customers into more than 50 countries in Africa, Europe and the Middle East will allow CETel to strengthen its position as a global player in the satellite communications market.
