Vicus Luxlink signs contract for Thor III inclined-satellite capacity
21 December 2010
Telenor Satellite Broadcasting announced the signing of a contract with Vicus Luxlink for the provision of inclined-satellite capacity on Thor III, located at the 4 degrees West orbital location.
Vicus Luxlink provides teleport and associated services from its teleport facility in Germany, near the border with Luxembourg, and has signed a contract for six transponders (with an option for a further two) following the completion of Thor III’s preparations for commercial service, which is expected in February 2011.
With TSBc’s agreement, Vicus Luxlink will install and manage its own platform at Cyta’s Makarios Teleport in Cyprus and will utilise the inclined-orbit satellite capacity for the provision of more than 600Mbps internet services in the Middle Eastern region in countries including Iraq and Lebanon. End-users will require a 2.4 metre tracking antenna to receive services.
“This represents the first major signed contract for inclined-satellite services on our Thor III satellite from its new orbital location at 4 degrees West” said Jose Salame, Middle East area sales manager at TSBc.”Thor III can offer a good six to 10 years of inclined-orbit operations for the provision of satellite services in the Middle East. We look forward to working with Vicus Luxlink in ensuring service delivery as soon as possible within this region.”
“We are proud to announce a further extension of our services in Middle East, which will grow due to this contract to around 2.2 Gbit/s for Middle East only ”said Markus Paquet, CEO of Vicus Luxlink.”This contract should be the first step in further fruitful long-term business together, which has always been the target and philosophy of our company”.
