Vizada Networks: Chosen by EULEX for Kosovo Deployment
7 December 2010
Vizada Networks, and CIS systems specialist has received a contract from EULEX (The European Union Rule of Law Mission in Kosovo), for the supply of VSAT Hub, Remote Terminals and Leasing of Satellite Transponder Space.
The contract was issued as per open procedure system and EULEX received eight offers in total, with Vizada Networks chosen as the most suitable supplier in terms of the proposed solution and ability to deliver within 90 days.
EULEX is the largest civilian mission ever launched under the Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP). The central aim is to assist and support the Kosovo authorities in the rule of law area, specifically in the police, judiciary and customs areas. The mission is not in Kosovo to
govern or rule. It is a technical mission which will monitor, mentor and advise whilst retaining a number of limited executive powers. EULEX works under the general framework of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1244 and has a unified chain of command to Brussels.
"EULEX has thousands of staff across Kosovo so the organisation has high level communication requirements in terms of capacity and reliability," comments Rune Kristiansen, Head of Vizada Networks Defence division. "We will provide a sophisticated solution using an enhanced iDirect
foundation, which has been developed to offer high reliability and efficiency through advanced QoS and bandwidth management systems. This combination of factors is of such high quality that defence and governmental organisations choose Vizada Networks to provide services for
a variety of critical applications in theatres and operational zones throughout the world."
The Vizada Networks solution consists of a 3.7m antenna with RF transmission components in addition to configuration and commissioning setup for the protocol and NMS Servers for the VSAT hub at the EULEX HQ in Pristina. Vizada Networks will also provide ten 2.4m VSAT antenna
assemblies with RF transmission components and baseband with integrated router for remote sites, and 1.5 MHz of capacity in the Ku Band, delivered using Intelsat 10-02.
The contract requires Vizada Networks engineers to install the VSAT hub and the first remote site, and supply training for EULEX engineers to carry out the remaining remote terminal installations in order to complete the network. The training will take place during the installation of the Hub and first remote terminal.
