MEDIA BROADCAST and Towercom renew comprehensive agreements for supply of satellite capacity at Astra 23.5° east

13. September 2010

MEDIA BROADCAST, and the Slovakian broadcast network provider Towercom have renewed long-standing agreements for the supply of transponder capacity at satellite Astra 23.5° east. This was announced by both companies today at the 2010 IBC fair in Amsterdam. According to the agreement, Towercom will continue renting one complete satellite transponder at Astra 3A as well as some additional DVB-S bandwidth on Astra 3B. The capacity will support direct-to-home broadcasting of the famous pay-TV platform Skylink with more than one million Czech and Slovakian subscribers. A further mission will cover signal contribution to DVB-T and cable network-headends in that area.

Skylink is one the most popular pay-TV operators for the Czech Republic and Slovakia. Platform operation is jointly carried out by Towercom and its Czech partner Trade Tec. Skylink offers an increasing number of SD channels as well as high resolution content, which is a genuine key driver for the growth of the platform.

Helmut Egenbauer, CEO of MEDIA BROADCAST, commented: “We really appreciate the renewed Towercom-agreement that will ensure a continuous operating grade of our capacities at 23.5° east. This long lasting cooperation significantly contributed to starting and establishing the capitalization of relevant eastern European markets via this specific satellite position.”

”We are very satisfied with our cooperation with Media Broadcast”, added Zsolt Nagy, Strategy and Business Development Director of Towercom. ”It enables us to offer more services in a more flexible and efficient way”.
