Movistar adopts Hughes’ HX satellite platform to deliver
first-class coverage of Pantin Surf World Championships

24 August 2010

Telefonica subsidiary, Movistar, has adopted the Hughes HX platform and HX VSAT in delivering first class coverage of the forthcoming Pantin Surf World Championships in North Western Spain. Taking place from 24-29 August, it is one of the top events in the global surfing calendar.

Based on Hughes advanced satellite technology and operated by Telefonica from its Guadalajara Teleport near Madrid, Movistar will include IP SAT (Internet via Satellite), an innovative communications solution which allows up to 10Mbps downstream and 2Mbps upstream.

Coverage of the Championships will be carried out through two mobile units sited at the event, which include audiovisual equipment specially developed to handle HDTV and IP SAT connectivity.

“The platform enables robust, high-quality communications to areas that are difficult to access and IP SAT has been designed and implemented specifically for this high-profile competition,” confirms Christopher Britton, CEO, Hughes Europe. “Once again it shows how Hughes works closely with its customers to deliver practical solutions which meet real-world communications challenges.”
