Avanti selected by Nottingham Scientific Limited

Avanti Communications Group plc has been selected by Nottingham Scientific Limited (NSL) to provide support to the first phase of its IRISS (Intelligent Railways via Integrated Satellite Services) project. IRISS will develop and demonstrate a pre-commercial service with a British train operator involving a number of applications including tracking and tracing of rail stock on routes across the UK. Satellite communications will be used to provide connectivity in rural areas where there is a lack of terrestrial communications infrastructure.

David Williams, Chief Executive of Avanti, commenting, said, “I am pleased that we have identified another potentially large scale application for our satellite broadband services and Avanti will be working hard with its customer to turn this project into a full scale deployment”.
