Yuri Prokhorov has been appointed to the position of Director General of RSCC

According to the Russian Federal Agency of Communications order No. 60-k dated 06 May 2010 Yuri Prokhorov has been appointed to the position of Director General of the Russian Satellite Communications Company. On 07 May 2010 Yuri Prokhorov proceeded to discharging of the duties of RSCC’ Director General.

Yuri Prokhorov was born on 29 October 1960 at Dedenevo settlement in Dmitrovsky district of Moscow Region. In 1984 he graduated from the Moscow Institute of radio technology, electronics and automatics (MIRTEA), radio and technical systems faculty, as an engineer-designer and technologist of radio-electronic equipment and specialized at postgraduate study in the field of radio location and radio navigation.

From 1982 till 1993 he worked at Kometa CRPO (central research and production organization) as an engineer, senior engineer, chief of a sector, chief of a laboratory in the field of satellite systems of special purpose and communications. He lectured at  MIRTEA, antennae and microwave devices course. In 1993 he started his work at Khrunichev SCRPC as chief of the space center satellite systems department. In 1995 he was appointed to the chief designer of communications systems and information technologies. In 1996 he was appointed to the director of Khrunichev Telecom division. In 1997 he proceeded to the Deputy Director General of Khrunichev SCRPC. In 2003 Yuri Prokhorov became the Deputy Director General on information technologies of Khrunichev SCRPC – Director of Khrunichev Telekom branch. From 2007 he was the Director of the new system projects department at Intellect Telecom public corporation. On 1 July 2008, Yuri Prokhorov started to work at RSCC’ as First Deputy Director General. Since June 12, 2009 he was RSCC’ Acting Director General.

Yuri Prokhorov headed the work on development and operation of advanced telecommunications systems for the sake of the satellite branch (inclusive work at Baikonur and Plesetsk space centers), as well as on development of on-board repeaters for small telecommunications spacecraft designed at Khrunichev SCPRC. Yuri Prokhorov leaded introduction of the GALS-technologies in control systems (including development of the United corporate control system of the company); he headed the work on development and operation of the Russian segment of the Iridium global personal mobile satellite communications system as well.
