IRG Brings CID Tour to CommunicAsia

3 June 2014

The Satellite Interference Reduction Group (IRG) today announced that it will be bringing its Carrier ID (CID) Tour to CommunicAsia, following the success of the tours at CABSAT and Satellite 2014.

The tour will help demonstrate the CID process, walking participants through the three main stages: Transmission, Detection and Resolution. Participants will meet the companies involved in all three areas, as well as learning more about the solutions and processes for reducing satellite interference.

The tour will begin with how CID is included at transmission, visiting encoder manufacturers, Comtech, Ericsson, Newtec and Work Microwave for insight. It will then look at how the CID is detected after transmission, which will involve demos from a number of companies. This part of the tour will visit Crystal Solutions, SAT Corporation, and Siemens Convergence Creators. The tour will end looking at how issues can be resolved thanks to CID. This part is handled by the satellite operator, using the CID Database provided by the Space Data Association, which is currently being created by AGI. Satellite operators in the tour include Eutelsat, Inmarsat, Intelsat, and SES.

“We were pleased with the awareness of CID created by the previous tours,” commented Martin Coleman, Executive Director, the Satellite Interference Reduction Group (IRG). “We now plan to take that same tour to all the major industry exhibitions and regions, helping us to educate more people about the importance of CID, but perhaps more importantly, the practicalities of how to implement it, including what is entailed, where to source the right solutions, and who can help them achieve that.”

The tours were well received at CABSAT and Satellite 2014. Serge Mal, GM-EVP at TeamCast, commented: “The CID tour was a great initiative for gathering many players in the satellite industry around this CID approach for solving the interference issue experienced in satellite TV transmission. As a contributor to the definition of CID through the DVB group, and as a manufacturer of CID-enabled products, TeamCast was very happy to take part in the CID Tour”

Lucy Bartamian, Senior Project Engineer, The Aerospace Corporation, added: “The CID tour offers a unique opportunity to gain an end-to-end perspective of the CID process and implementation. All the players, including equipment manufacturers and satellite operators, are under one roof on the exhibit floor and available to provide demonstrations and answer your questions."
