Palestine
buys
broadcasting
capacity
from
Gulfsat
Gulfsat
Communications
signed
a
cooperation
agreement
with
the
Palestine
Broadcasting
Corporation
(PBC),
under
which
the
PBC
acquired
a
satellite
broadcasting
capacity
of
up
to
45
megabytes.
The
signing
took
place
in
Amman,
Jordan
with
presence
of
Dr.
Riyadh
Al-Hassan,
President
of
the
Palestinian
Information
Authority,
in
addition
to
the
Palestinian
Ambassador
in
Jordan,
Kuwaiti
Ambassador
in
Jordan,
head
of
Palestine
TV’s
office
in
Jordan
and
the
Commercial
and
Sales
Director
of
Gulfsat
Communications
Dr.
Reyad
Douglas.
Mr.
Mohammad
Al-Hajj,
Gulfsat
Communications’
Chairman
and
CEO,
said
on
this
occasion
that
the
agreement
provides
a
capacity
for
channels
to
the
Palestinian
TV,
and
in
an 8
degrees’
orbit
that
is
near
to
Nile
Sat’s
orbit,
which
allows
broadcasting
radio
and
television
networks
in
the
Middle
East
and
North
Africa.
He
added
that
the
service
comes
with
special
features,
including
a
secure
frequency
that
is
immune
from
disruption,
adding
that
connection
will
be
made
via
fiber
optics
from
Ramallah
to
the
designated
station.
Meanwhile,
Dr
Al-Hassan
said
that
this
agreement
allows
Palestine
to
use
nearly
20
satellite
stations,
adding
that
the
Palestinian
Radio
and
Television
Authority
will
use
five
to
six
channels
including
a
news
channel,
a
sports
channel,
and
‘Palestine
48’.
Dr
Al-Hassan
described
the
agreement
as a
‘historic
achievement’
for
the
Palestinian
media,
adding
that
the
satellite
will
be
named
‘Sat
Pal’.
He
also
indicated
that
the
authority
intends
to
sell
the
remaining
capacity
to
Palestinian
media
institutions
and
others,
which
helps
reduce
the
cost
of
broadcasting
Palestine
TV,
and
keeping
it
available
free
of
charge.
He
added
that
the
authority
also
plans
to
rent
the
broadcasting
to
local
institutes
such
as
universities,
which
helps
improve
the
ability
to
spread
the
Palestinian
cause.
He
pointed
out
as
well
that
Palestine
is
the
sixth
Arab
country
to
own
a
broadcasting
capacity.
On
his
part,
Palestinian
Ambassador
to
Jordan
Khairi
Atallah
said
that
the
agreement
is a
‘historic
achievement,’
saying
that
Palestine
provides
services
similar
to
independent
nations
despite
being
under
occupation.
He
added
that
the
agreement
is
considered
a
highlight
in
the
distinguished
Palestinian
media
history,
and
congratulated
Palestinian
on
the
huge
achievement
of
having
a
satellite
named
after
Palestine.
