SKY Perfect JSAT to Provide Disaster-Response Satellite Communication for "GLION ARENA KOBE"

Jan 17, 2025

SKY Perfect JSAT Corporation Director, President and Chief Executive Officer: Eiichi Yonekura, “SKY Perfect JSAT” will deploy a disaster-response satellite communications system for “GLION ARENA KOBE,” a multi-purpose arena set to open in Kobe, Hyogo Prefecture, Japan, in April 2025. This system, powered by the satellite IP network service “ExBird”*1, will ensure stable internet connection and voice communication via satellite during disasters. The initiative aims to enhance communication for medical response and facilitate coordination with local governments and medical institutions.

In April 2023, SKY Perfect JSAT formed a collaborative partnership with the operator of GLION ARENA KOBE, One Bright KOBE Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Kobe, Hyogo Prefecture; President and Representative Director: Jun Shibuya, “One Bright KOBE”), and has since participated in the Kobe Arena Project as a “Content & BCP Sustainable Partner.” Marking 30 years since the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake in 1995, the partnership contributes to strengthening disaster preparedness in the Hanshin-Awaji region by preinstalling satellite communication antenna.

As part of “TOTTEI ALL GREEN ACTION,” a community and social initiative led by One Bright KOBE and the professional basketball team Kobe Storks, which will use GLION ARENA KOBE as their home arena, collaboration is also planned with designated emergency response hospitals in Hyogo Prefecture to enhance regional disaster response capabilities.

The Kobe Arena Project is a redevelopment initiative for the Shinminato West Pier area (2nd pier), led by Kobe City. This private-sector-led project seeks to inspire new experiences by combining sports, entertainment, and digital innovations in collaboration with various partners. The centerpiece of the project is GLION ARENA KOBE, Japan’s first waterfront arena surrounded by the sea on three sides (270 degrees), along with the adjacent “TOTTEI PARK,” which will operate as an integrated facility. Together, these venues aim to establish a new landmark for Kobe and serve as a hub for promoting regional appeal.

Designed as a multi-purpose arena, GLION ARENA KOBE will host games for the B.LEAGUE team Kobe Storks, as well as music concerts, sports events, and MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions). Preparations are underway for its scheduled opening in April 2025, aligning with the launch of the Osaka-Kansai Expo.

Through its participation in the Kobe Arena Project, SKY Perfect JSAT will contribute to regional revitalization and the creation of a sustainable society by supporting music, sports, and other entertainment events, and providing reliable satellite communication solutions for large-scale disaster scenarios.
