NuSpace acquires Chipsafer’s Satellite-linked Livestock Tracking Platform to deliver end-to-end IoT solutions

NuSpace has announced the acquisition of Chipsafer’s satellite-linked livestock tracking platform, enabling NuSpace’s expansion into end-to-end IoT applications. The acquisition will deliver a fully integrated sensor-to-satellite service, leveraging IoT satellite technology, IoT applications and LoRa connectivity for mass, low-cost asset tracking deployed anywhere, everywhere. The specific commercial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.

An international space technology partnership incubated in Singapore

NuSpace and Chipsafer formed a strategic partnership in 2020 – having been connected by Singapore Space & Technology Limited (SSTL) and its global Space Accelerator Programme. The acquisition represents the next phase of the strategic partnership, delivering a vertically integrated service delivery platform. The acquisition also marks a significant milestone in NuSpace’s growth strategy, delivering innovation across new global markets by bridging space technology with practical terrestrial applications.

A global pioneer in space-based livestock tracking technology

Founded in 2012, Chipsafer’s patented and World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) award winning technology pioneered the global satellite-linked livestock tracking industry. From its origins in Uruguay, Chipsafer relocated to Singapore in 2020 to drive its global expansion strategy. Chipsafer has developed projects across multiple continents and has gained prospective customer interest in its technology across 63 countries. Chipsafer’s platform offers real-time livestock tracking using space-based technology and captures current and historic health, behaviour and transaction information.

NuSpace’s satellite success story

NuSpace launched its ‘NuLIoN’ space mission in July 2023. The success of the mission demonstrated NuSpace’s expanding capability in the delivery of reliable IoT satellite solutions from its base of operations in Singapore. With the integration of the Chipsafer platform, NuSpace will now offer comprehensive satellite and IoT solutions, allowing any LoRa enabled device to connect and provide seamless data transmission for various applications.

Following the acquisition, NuSpace plans to focus on integrating Chipsafer’s technology into its existing services to create a comprehensive solution for monitoring and data analytics across multiple industries. The company aims to explore new application areas beyond livestock tracking, including environmental monitoring, smart agriculture, and asset management, leveraging its satellite expertise and the Chipsafer platform’s IoT capabilities.
