Pactel International Implements its new C-Band Platform in the Asia-Pacific Region
16 September 2010
Pactel International established a new satellite link between their US Hub and the Cocos Islands, using Newtec’s DVB-S2 technology. The new service addressed the immediate expansion needs for the local Internet service provider, CIIA.
The satellite link is designed to carry Internet traffic to/from the Cocos Islands. The new DVB-S2 platform is directly connected to Pactel’s redundant backbone (in Hawaii) via the APSTAR-6 satellite and provides Cocos Island’s residents with direct access to US Tier 1 Internet backbone, ensuring higher Internet speed and reliability.
Brad Waugh, CEO of CIIA (Christmas Island Internet Association) thanked Pactel International for their contribution: “We are grateful to Pactel for the work done during our satellite service upgrade. We are looking forward to providing our customers with a faster and more reliable Internet service, using the latest satellite technology.” “Pactel’s availability of ongoing 24/7 customer support provides us with confidence in doing so”, Mr Waugh added.
Andrew Taylor, CEO of Pactel International said: “Geographical regions like Cocos Islands are our prime target market and we appreciate the trust local internet service providers like CIIA have in our abilities to provide them with fast and reliable internet services, which whole communities can depend on”.
