Singapore Exchange Mainboard-listed Addvalue Technologies Ltd, a leading global developer and supplier of mobile satellite terminals supporting coverage provided by premier mobile satellite communication operators such as Inmarsat plc and Thuraya Telecommunications Company, announced the appointment of Mr Michael J Butler as an additional Independent Director of the Company with effect from September 1, 2010. As an Independent Director, Mr Butler will be a member of the Audit Committee, Nominating Committee and Remuneration Committee of the Company.
Mr Butler, a British national, has over 20 years of successful commercial experience in world-class telecommunication businesses, including more than 10 years in senior general management roles with full P&L responsibility. From May 2000 to April 2009, Mr Butler was Managing Director, then President & Chief Operating Officer and an executive board director of Inmarsat, a FTSE 100 company. Inmarsat, the acknowledged world leader in the provision of global, mobile satellite communications services to enterprise and government customers – on land, at sea and in the air, provides voice, data and broadband services in over 200 countries, via a worldwide network of over 500 partner organizations.
Whilst at Inmarsat, Mr Butler was responsible for the company’s largest ever capital investment programme, the US$1.5 billion ‘Inmarsat-4/BGAN’ programme from 2000 to 2005, and thereafter, the successful introduction of mobile broadband services for land, maritime and aeronautical applications. Responsible for all aspects of Inmarsat’s global business operations, including Mobile Satellite Services’ revenues of more than US$630 million per annum, he also oversaw 500+ professional staff members and forged and developed business relationships with an extensive network of distribution, service, technology and manufacturing partners around the world. He also played a key role in Inmarsat's transition from a former intergovernmental organisation (IGO) to a private limited company, through a private equity backed leverage buyout in 2003, and subsequently to a successful London IPO in 2005 and the doubling of market capitalisation which led to Inmarsat’s FTSE 100 entry in September 2008.
Commenting on his appointment, Mr Butler remarked, "Addvalue is well positioned to capitalise on the growing demand for innovative, broadband MSS solutions. With its range of products successfully launched and very well received by the market last year and the new ones it expects to roll out, I am most delighted to be joining the Board and certainly hope to add value and contribute to the well-being and growth of Addvalue." "Michael certainly brings along with him invaluable experience, exceptional expertise and fresh perspective to our Board and helps bridge the vital link between Asia, where Addvalue is based, and Europe and Americas, where Addvalue’s current major customers and partners are based. Given his sterling background and with his sound business acumen, I have no doubt that Addvalue, which now advances from the product development phase into sales growth and expansion, will stand to benefit tremendously from him in the areas of corporate governance, capital markets and global business initiatives", added Dr Colin Chan, Chairman and CEO of Addvalue.
