Stratos Provides Singapore's SE Ship Management with Broadband Crew Communications Solution

June 7, 2010

Stratos Global Corporation, has successfully deployed an integrated, broadband crew communications solution for SE Ship Management Pte. Ltd. (SESM), one of Singapore’s leading ship operators and managers. SESM is a subsidiary of SE Shipping Lines Pte. Ltd. (SESL).

The Stratos solution includes the deployment of its AmosConnect Crew communications application on the Inmarsat FleetBroadband 150 (FB150) mobile satellite platform. The solution is installed on the SESL vessels SE Pelagica and SE Potentia – both of which are heavy-lift, multipurpose dry cargo vessels that operate worldwide.

Inmarsat’s entry-level FB150 service combines a high-quality telephone connection with simultaneous IP data at up to 150kbps. The compact and easy-to-install FB150 offers affordable and reliable communications worldwide.

AmosConnect Crew is an all-in-one solution that combines AmosConnect for interoffice communications and Stratos ChatCard for crew communications. The solution enables personnel at sea to stay in contact with home via calling, private email and SMS at affordable, flat global rates – thus helping retain qualified seafarers. It provides an easily manageable, separate account for each crewmember. The latest version of AmosConnect Crew is expanded beyond private email to include true onboard Internet café features, such as prepaid chatting, prepaid web browsing, and access to local and global news services.

SESM also will soon deploy AmosConnect Anti-Virus from Stratos, which provides onboard protection against intrusion of Internet computer viruses and malicious software in the satellite broadband environment.

SESM officials said that when they were ready to replace their legacy Inmarsat systems with the latest broadband technology, they relied upon Stratos to recommend an integrated system, as Stratos had served the Company well with creative solutions in the past. The new system integrating AmosConnect Crew and FB150 already has proven to be operator friendly and cost effective. SESM officials report that crew feedback to the new system has been favorable, as Stratos ChatCard rates are very competitive. SESM also reports that Stratos has provided prompt support at every opportunity.

Stratos President and CEO Jim Parm said, “It is gratifying to continue our established relationship with SESM by providing them with communications cost savings via a uniform system that can be deployed across the entire SESL fleet. We look forward to continue supporting SESM with all of The Stratos Advantage value-added services, as well as with the highest levels of 24/7 customer service.”
