Tachyon
Networks
announced
the
availability
of
new
end-to-end
fixed
and
mobile
broadband
satellite
communications
solutions
for
Southwest
Asia,
including
Afghanistan.
The
Tachyon
solution
includes
high
power
capacity,
ground-based
infrastructure,
ultra-small
aperture
terminal
(USAT)
equipment
and
managed
network
services
operating
in
its
Ku-band
beams,
achieving
mobile
data
rates
of
512
Kbps
moving
to
2.8
Mbps
Demand
for
satellite
based
broadband
communication
services
in
Southwest
Asia,
especially
for
Comms-on-the-Move
(COTM)
applications,
has
grown
significantly
in
recent
years.
However,
lack
of
supply
of
broadband
satellite
capacity
with
sufficient
power
has
thwarted
market
growth.
Tachyon
has
addressed
this
market
demand
by
acquiring
the
Intelsat
IS-24
spacecraft,
moving
it
from
4ºW
to
47.3ºE
and
placing
into
an
inclined
orbit.
The
56
dBW
EIRP
and
16
dBK
G/T
characteristics
of
the
Ku-Band
payload,
coupled
with
Tachyon’s
USAT
equipment
and
service,
meet
the
unique
and
specialized
demand
for
COTM
in
Southwest
Asia.
