Dish TV India Selects Broadcom for New Direct-to-Home Set-Top Boxes

8 July 2013

Broadcom Corporation announced that Dish TV India Ltd., the largest direct broadcast satellite television provider in India, has selected Broadcom's highly integrated systems-on-a-chip (SoCs) to power its upcoming generation of satellite set-top boxes. Dish TV India's new devices will deliver increased high-definition (HD) content offerings to its subscribers.

As consumers in India adopt increasing numbers of high-definition televisions, there is a growing demand for high-definition content. Broadcom's BCM7358 HD and BCM7301 SD SoCs provide operators with a cost efficient platform while maintaining best-in-class integration, features and performance.  As India's largest direct-to-home television provider, Dish TV India has more than 400 channels and 15 million subscribers on its platform. The company also has a vast distribution network of about 1,400 distributors and 80,000 dealers, which span 8,000 towns in India.

"Broadcom offers the technology we need to enable our subscribers to enjoy the ever expanding array of television content and interactive services available for home entertainment and information," said Rajiv Khattar, Dish TV President Projects.  "Our work with Broadcom's and their proven set-top box solutions has allowed us to extend our leadership position in the direct-to-home market and offer market-differentiating services such as USB DVR."

"Dish TV has created a breadth of set-top box offerings for subscribers using SD and HD SoCs from Broadcom," said Rich Nelson, Broadcom Senior Vice President, Broadband Communications Group.  "Together, our technology is bringing innovative programming in high-quality to subscribers in the India direct-to-home space."
