High Speed Ku-band VSAT Coverage in the Seychelles

December 10, 2012

OmniAccess,  will expand its flexible and high speed coverage areas to include the Seychelles as well complementing the existing coverage over the Maldives.

The new network will be available in mid-December and will operate on a Ku band spot beam that covers both the Maldives and the Seychelles. As part of this coverage expansion, OmniAccess will uplink the service from Europe through its fifth iDirect Evolution® Hub.

The Ku Band VSAT services will be available under the flexible BroadBEAM FLEX month-to-month contracts as well as high speeds of up to 15Mbps BroadBEAM ULTRA service plans. As a result, private and commercial vessels in the Seychelles and Maldives will be able to enjoy a real broadband experience at sea with bandwidth hungry applications such as Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) streaming, Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), videoconferencing and cloud computing.

Furthermore, OmniAccess takes pride in being at the forefront of technological advances, and, as the launch customer, OmniAccess will be the first to upgrade the VSAT network to the new IDX3.2 backbone and iDirect X7 Modems that will provide faster data rates and higher weather resilience in the tropical Indian Ocean climate.

“In our effort to provide extensive Ku Band coverage in the yachting sailing areas, over the last year we have lead the market by expanding our Ku band networks in remote areas such as the French Polynesia, Galapagos, Antarctica and now the Seychelles. Up to now maritime Internet connectivity had been extremely limited in the Indian Ocean islands and thanks to our new network Yacht owners and charterers in the Seychelles will be able to enjoy high-speed internet services.” Carlos Carbajal, Managing Director Yacht Services
