Further
expansion for Pactel in PNG: New Partnerships in the Resource Sector
5 November 2012
Recently Pactel International
partnered with RuralTech Developments, an existing service provider in
Papua New Guinea to supply enhanced satellite communications services to
remote provinces of the country. Initially, Pactel designed and provided
three corporate links to resource-related companies operating in PNG,
with plans to expand into education, finance and other sectors in the
near future. All three projects utilise Pactel’s carrier-grade NSS-9
Platform and are optimised via Pactel’s bandwidth management tools.
Earlier this year, Pactel
provided separate corporate links to two locations associated with the
PNG LNG Project: Red Sea Housing and one of the major contractors of the
LNG Project. Both sites are now equipped with access to corporate data,
internet and voice applications as well as allowing for the recreational
or worker welfare communications.
The latest RuralTech
Developments project involved designing a tailored network for
High Arctic Energy Services to allow the company to duplicate and
migrate their corporate data into the satellite cloud, so it can be
securely accessed across four remote locations. Commissioned in May
2012, the cloud-based platform is directly connected to servers
co-located with Pactel’s data centre, resulting in minimal latency, and
therefore increased reliability and efficiency.
“Pactel International’s unique
(satellite cloud) design provided our customer with an end-to-end
inherently secure private network, whilst being cost-effective by
maintaining a single set of server infrastructure in a centralised
location”, said Shahram Honarzad (Shaz), Director at RuralTech
Developments. “In addition, High Arctic’s field personnel now have
improved accessibility through CITRIX and other RDP application
enhancements.”, added Mr Honarzad.
As for Pactel International, the
new partnership with RuralTech Developments strengthened the
company position as a dedicated service provider to the mining, oil and
gas industry as well as allowing further expansion on its capabilities
in providing value-added services across satellite networks.
“Satellite communications is an
innovation-driven industry”, said Nick Miller, Sales Manager at Pactel
International”. “Recent projects with Rural Technologies enabled us to
apply latest innovations in satellite cloud computing and bandwidth
management combined with our recent ROCK solution to remain on top of
our game”.
As a part of its strategy going
forward, Rural Technologies is currently expanding into the education
and finance markets. Consequently, there are more PNG-based satellite
projects in Pactel’s line of sight.
