Speedcast Continues Expansion In The Pacific With New Investment In Papua New Guinea

April 17 2012

SpeedCast Limited, announced the expansion of its business in the Pacific and Oceania Regions, with the investment of a new iDirect hub in Papua New Guinea. SpeedCast partnered with Oceanic Broadband Solutions, a leading integrator and solutions provider in the Oceania Region, in order to deliver reliable communications in the two regions. This investment is continuation of SpeedCast’s overall strategy to invest in regions and infrastructure to support SpeedCast’s customers and partners throughout the world.

SpeedCast selected Papua New Guinea (PNG) as the ideal location for the new investment based on an immediate opportunity to serve a major customer there. The investment will also enhance SpeedCast’s ability to support customers in PNG and the Pacific Region. The hub will immediately support a number of new and existing customers in PNG and beyond, and provide them with greater performance and efficiency.

SpeedCast and Oceanic have had a successful relationship over the past few years. SpeedCast’s hub investment was done in conjunction with Oceanic’s own significant investment in their PNG teleport. SpeedCast is leveraging the strength of Oceanic’s presence in PNG, where they serve as the local ISP and system integrator, and the quality of their support in the region.

SpeedCast and Oceanic have a well established track record of supporting a broad range of customers and applications throughout the regions. For instance, in Vanuatu, SpeedCast and Oceanic deliver reliable communications for banking customers to ensure business continuity even during times of disruption of normal telecommunication services. In the Oceania Region, SpeedCast and Oceanic support the communications needs of a major international logistics service company and a large international NGO out of their PNG network operations center. This latest investment also complements and extends SpeedCast’s recent investment in a hub in Australia and its drive into the natural resource industry.

“This new investment and partnership with Oceanic Broadband, represents the continuation of SpeedCast’s expansion in the Pacific and Oceania Regions. It also marks a strategic step in our plans for adding coverage for the growing natural resource market,” stated Pierre-Jean Beylier, CEO at SpeedCast. “Oceanic is a leading integrator and solution provider in the regions and we are thrilled to be partnered with them to deliver unparalleled services for our portfolio of customers.”

“We are pleased to partner with SpeedCast for the reliable delivery of network connectivity for our portfolio of customers,” stated Tony Waters, CEO at Oceanic Broadband Solutions. “Oceanic is committed to developing highly efficient, cost-effective and flexible solutions in the region, and SpeedCast is an industry leader in delivering critical communications with proven results.”
