Optus inks satellite deal extension with GlobeCast

Optus has announced an 11-year satellite deal to continue providing satellite services to GlobeCast Australia.

The deal, said to be worth several million dollars, will see GlobeCast – which provides services for international broadcasters in Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific Islands – continue to use the Optus D2 satellite to cover direct-to-home services across the region. The services play out of GlobeCast’s Sydneybased broadcast centre and is uplinked from the Optus Belrose Earth Station in New South Wales.

“This agreement is further proof that Optus is the satellite provider of choice for Australian broadcast customers, delivering great quality and value added services,” said Optus Wholesale and Satellite MD Vicki Brady. “Optus continues to provide quality service and cost efficiencies that will meet the needs of GlobeCast well into 2022.”

GlobeCast has maintained a relationship with Optus for the past 15 years. GlobeCast Australia CEO Mike Lattin said the decision to continue the partnership with Optus was based on the telco’s proven track record of delivering quality satellite services to reach across the entire country.
