A leading Asian satellite operator, specialising in broadcast and data services has chosen ETL’s modular RF distribution systems to deliver and condition their satellite signals into Viasat and IDirect modems.
This fast growing satcomms provider was looking for dependable L-band splitters and combiners for their main teleport in Hong Kong and ETL's upgraded Modular System met all requirements.
Their Director of Engineering said “We run our Tx and Rx signals through SCPC, TDM and TDMA modems and the variable gain combiners and splitters in ETL's design is perfect. As well as giving 0 to 28dB of gain to balance the signal strength (because of climatic conditions) we also have long cable runs so the slope equalisation is ideal."
"This design is very interesting as this teleport is running both uplink and downlink feeds through the same distribution chassis" commented Martin Ashworth, ETL's new Technical Director. He continues, “Hot-swap cards which mix both combining and splitting in one chassis is not what most rack space hungry Teleport & ISP operators realise is possible."
ETL’s Modular system (model 26128) can also house a wide range of amplifier and redundancy switch cards in its 16 card slots; all protected by dual PSU's and remote control CPU modules. Although mainly L-band, IF designs are now available.
