THAICOM-TOT Supports MICT the Installation of CCTVs via Satellite

for 24-hour Flood Surveillance

October 17, 2011.

THAICOM Public Company Limited  revealed that due to the on-going flood crisis, in particular, in the central areas of Thailand, has significantly impacted people living in these affected areas. The Company and TOT Public Company Limited (“TOT”) have jointly supported the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology (“MICT”) by using the IPSTAR broadband Satellite System and THAICOM 4 Satellite to receive and transmit live pictures via CCTV cameras, which are currently installed in critically hit areas. These CCTVs will monitor the water level changes in real-time and the information is fed to the government’s Flood Relief Operation Center at Don Muang Airport. The Flood Relief Operation Center is therefore able to effectively assist those affected in a timely basis.

In this collaborative effort, THAICOM Plc. provided the THAICOM 4 bandwidth and the IPSTAR system to connect to CCTV cameras in critical areas. The video signals from the CCTV cameras are connected to the IPSTAR user terminals and transmitted to the THAICOM 4 satellite and relayed to the IPSTAR user terminal installed at the Flood Relief Operation Center for real-time monitoring. As of October 17, THAICOM has completed installations in Bangkok, Ayudhya, and Pathumthani provinces. TOT Public Company Limited, as IPSTAR’s National Service Operator, supported the IPSTAR user terminals and antennas as well as installation services. The CCTV cameras and Wi-Fi equipment were provided by NVK Thailand Co., Ltd., a THAICOM business partner. MICT’s task is to determine the critical areas that require monitoring.

Suphajee Suthumpun, Chief Executive Officer, THAICOM Plc., said “Firstly, I am greatly saddened by the suffering of the people affected by the worst flooding in Thailand’s recent history. The company has been fully supporting the relief efforts and currently working closely with the ICT Ministry to take advantage of our satellites to provide assistance in critically hit areas.”

“Using the THAICOM 4 satellite together with the IPSTAR system, we are installing satellite terminals to monitor water levels in real time in critical areas as determined by the MICT. We have received tremendous collaboration from our partners TOT, our IPSTAR National Satellite Operator, and NVK Thailand.

THAICOM is ready to provide any additional assistance that the MICT requires”, added Suphajee.
