Pactel Provides Enhanced Connectivity to an International University

8 September 2011

Pactel International has been awarded a major contract for providing internet services to the Port Moresby campus of the Pacific Adventist University – a leading provider of tertiary education in PNG and the Pacific Islands. Pactel’s upgrade to the existing satellite link will enable the University to meet its expanding connectivity needs.

The communication system is based on Pactel’s C-Band VSAT platform connected to a fully redundant backbone in Hawaii, providing high-speed internet connectivity.  The system provides online applications to over 800 students, allowing them to interact with each other, the lecturers and access learning resources worldwide.

As a value-added service, Pactel has applied its QoS technology to filter bandwidth-consuming protocols and to give more priority to student-critical services, such as HTTP browsing and student forums. The result is a more efficient, reliable, and predictable system for delivering learning-specific solutions over the network.

“Access to the internet has become vital in supporting today’s education facilities”, said Reeves Papaol – Information Technology Manager, Pacific Adventist University.  “Pactel International has assisted in providing our students with the resources needed to facilitate an effective learning process”, Papaol added.

“Education is critical to the development of the Pacific, and Pactel is pleased to be providing important services in the sector throughout the region”, said Andrew Taylor – Chief Executive Officer, Pactel International.
