THAICOM Public Company Limited announced its second quarter operating results as at 30 June. The company's total sales and service income for the second quarter ending June 30, 2011 stood at Baht 1.86 billion, an increase of 292 million Baht compared to the first quarter of the year. This increase can be attributed to higher User Terminal sales, as well as improved performance of IPSTAR and THAICOM 5. However, on a quarter-to-quarter basis, revenues for telephone services dropped by 14.6% to 274 million Baht. The company's satellite and related businesses, posted revenues of Baht 1.46 billion, an increase of 26.5% compared to the same period last year. This performance improved the company’s bottom line substantially, reducing losses by 83.9% year-on-year, to 25 million Baht for the quarter
Satellite and Related Businesses
Revenues from IPSTAR stood at Baht 862 million, an increase of Baht 224 million or 35.1% from the second quarter of 2010. These revenues resulted from increased bandwidth usage and realization of full revenue from Japan and increased user terminal sales. Revenues from THAICOM 5 were reported at Baht 599 million, maintaining growth despite the fact that these revenues were realized by only one satellite, while in the same period of the previous year, the company also had revenues from THAICOM 2. As of the end of the second quarter of 2011, THAICOM has 380 television channels on the THAICOM 5 platform.
Telephone Businesses
Revenues from the telephone business services in Cambodia (Mfone Co., Ltd.) and Laos (Lao Telecommunications Co., Ltd.) were Baht 274 million, a decrease of Baht 47 million or 14.6% compared to the previous quarter. As of the end of the second quarter of 2011, the combined number of mobile subscribers of LTC and Mfone stood at 2,126,516 an increase of 5.2% compared to the same period of 2010.
Internet and Media Businesses
Total revenues in the Internet access and media businesses were Baht 127 million, an increase of Baht 19 million or 17.6% from Baht 108 million in the previous quarter, or 10 million Baht year-on-year. At the end of the second quarter, total sales of DTV dish sets in Thailand, Cambodia, and Laos were 1,072,282 units, an increase of 48.6% over the same period of 2010. CS LOXINFO Plc. (“CSL”) also announced to pay an interim dividend of Baht 0.27 per share for the performance of the first six months of 2011. CSL had an increase of 21% in net profit due to the continued growth of internet services, voice data services and value added services on mobile.
According to THAICOM’s consolidated financial statement, the Company reported an operating net cash flow of Baht 1.55 million and net cash flow for investment of Baht 919 million. As of June 30, 2011, the Company had ending cash of Baht 1.95 billion
