DataPath to Re-Focus
Portable Satellite
Terminals Business on
Engineering and Design
Expertise
May 25, 2016
DataPath, Inc.,
announced plans to
re-focus its Portable
Satellite Terminals
business around its core
competency as a premier
engineering and product
design center.
DataPath is realigning
the division, which is
based in
Stockholm, Sweden,
as part of an ongoing
initiative to improve
product quality and
production efficiency.
Manufacturing of
DataPath's newest
portable terminal
products, including the
recently released QCT90,
will move from
Sweden to
the company's primary
production facility in
Atlanta, Georgia.
As part of the
transformation plan,
oversight for quality
and supply chain
management will
transition to a newly
created global function
that will encompass all
DataPath products and
services.
In addition to changes
in quality management,
production and supply
chain, DataPath's
Stockholm
office will assume
responsibility for sales
and support for
customers and channel
partners based in
Europe,
the
Middle East
and
Asia,
while U.S. offices will
maintain responsibility
for customers based in
the U.S., the Americas,
the
United Kingdom,
Australia
and
New Zealand.
"These changes to our
business are truly
transformational in nature.
We are not just looking to
streamline operational
costs; this is about
repositioning our Portable
Satellite Terminals business
for long-term market
strength," said
Carsten Drachmann,
Vice President and General
Manager of DataPath's
Portable Satellite Terminals
division. "Through this
more strategic structure,
DataPath will enhance focus
on innovative design,
improve product quality,
achieve supply chain
efficiencies, and increase
speed to market for new
products."
This transition enables
DataPath to enhance its
terminal portfolio with new
products designed
specifically to meet the
changing landscape and price
requirements of commercial
markets like broadcast
newsgathering, oil and gas,
construction and emergency
response. At the same
time, the company will
continue to leverage the
Stockholm
team's 25-year heritage of
precision engineering and
user friendly product
design. DataPath's Portable
Satellite Terminals business
has a proven track record,
in both military and
commercial markets. The
company's installed base
includes over 3,000 portable
terminals deployed
worldwide, ranging in size
from .45 meter man-packable
units to 2 meter vehicle
mounted systems.
"Today's customer for
portable satellite terminals
is increasingly
sophisticated and has more
connectivity choices with
next generation
high-throughput satellites
coming online," said
David
Myers,
President & CEO of DataPath.
"To better enable our
customers to take advantage
of emerging technologies,
DataPath has transitioned
from providing just
individual components of
satellite-based networks to
complete end-to-end
solutions of equipment,
bandwidth, and network
management tools and
services. Our Portable
Terminals team in
Sweden has
designed some of the best
products in the market and
is fundamental to our
strategy of providing
complete end-to-end
solutions for our commercial
and military customers
alike."
