Michael J. DeMarco and Kurt Riegelman
Appointed to New Roles on Intelsat’s Executive Leadership Team
1 April 2015
Intelsat S.A. announced the promotion of two seasoned executives
that have strong records of creating value and delivering results
for customers to the company’s executive leadership team.
The moves come as Stephen Spengler officially assumes the role of
Chief Executive Officer on 1 April from Intelsat’s now executive
chairman, Dave McGlade.
Kurt Riegelman, 51, has been named Senior Vice President, Sales and
Marketing, assuming leadership of Intelsat’s product management and
marketing functions in addition to the company’s global sales
initiatives. Kurt previously served as Senior Vice President,
Global Sales. By combining all customer facing responsibilities
under one leader, Intelsat will streamline and accelerate its
go-to-market strategy as the company plans to broaden its reach
within existing and new applications.
Riegelman joined Intelsat in 1998 as Vice President, North America
Sales responsible for many of Intelsat’s largest customer contracts
within the media sector. In 2006, he assumed sales leadership for
the Americas region and, in 2008, Riegelman increased his
responsibility to cover all sales globally for Intelsat.
In a newly created role, Michael J. DeMarco, 44, has been named
Senior Vice President, Operations, and will lead Intelsat’s network
engineering, network operations and information system teams,
including the company’s eight global teleport operations, effective
immediately. He will be responsible for Intelsat’s information
system strategy and for the delivery of the company’s end-to-end
service portfolio, including the integration of the Intelsat EpicNG®
platform, the first satellite of which is expected to launch in
early 2016. He previously served as Intelsat’s Senior Vice
President, Marketing and Solutions Development in which he led the
company’s product management, marketing, customer solutions
engineering and asset management functions.
DeMarco joined the company in 2000 and since then has held roles of
increasing responsibility within the company. He served as Vice
President of Core Video Services, Senior Director of Business
Operations, and Director of Product Finance at PanAmSat prior to its
2006 merger with Intelsat. In 2006, he was named Vice President of
Media Services spearheading the development of successful video
neighborhoods at the 66° and 68.5° orbital locations serving Africa
and the Indian Ocean Region, as well as the Intelsat 1°W
neighborhood serving Eastern Europe.
In addition to DeMarco and Riegelman, Michelle Bryan, Executive Vice
President, General Counsel and Chief Administrative Officer; Thierry
Guillemin, Executive Vice President and Chief Technology Officer and
Michael McDonnell, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial
Officer, will continue to report to Stephen Spengler and serve on
the company’s executive leadership team.
Stephen Spengler, Chief Executive Officer, Intelsat, stated, “We are
at an important inflection point at Intelsat and the satellite
industry overall, as dynamic changes begin to take hold across the
communications landscape and our sector. As we prepare to bring our
next generation Intelsat EpicNG satellites to market, it
requires strong leaders that are results-oriented and are passionate
about supporting the growth of our customers. I’ve worked closely
with both Kurt and Mike and have been impressed by their hard work,
dedication and the strong leadership that they have demonstrated
throughout the years. Working closely with other members of
Intelsat’s senior leadership team, I am confident we can
successfully navigate the challenges, seize upon the opportunities
and together, deliver strong results for our customers, employees
and shareholders over the long-term.”
