ASC Signal Secures Major Contract with Harris Corporation for NOAA’s National Weather Service Satellite Antennas

February 24, 2015

ASC Signal Corporation has been awarded a contract by Harris Corporation to deliver a network of earth station antennas supporting the US Commerce Department’s National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).  The program, which is supporting NOAA’s next generation of weather satellites called the Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellites – R Series (GOES-R), is part of Harris’s prime contract with NOAA to provide direct receipt and processing of critical weather data to the National Weather Service (NWS).

ASC Signal is providing a network of 6.5-meter L-band antenna systems, civil works and site logistics for eight NWS multi-antenna locations in the continental US, Hawaii and Guam.  The high-performance ASC antennas incorporate a prime-focus L-band configuration on ASC’s 6.5-meter antenna in both standard and high-wind mounting configurations.

In addition to these L-band configurations, ASC Signal has delivered thousands of its 6.5-meter antenna in C-, X- and Ku-bands around the world.  Each of ASC’s 6.5 meter earth station configurations utilize ASC’s high-gain, multiband antenna which has been modified to support the GOES-R rebroadcast mission. At the same time, the systems take advantage of tracking capabilities provided with ASC’s forward-looking Next Generation Controller (NGC) and Sub-Reflector Tracking (SRT) to provide the highest level of tracking accuracy available in mobile antenna systems.

“We are proud of having been part of this important project which will help NWS advance the understanding of weather systems and provide more reliable data on the earth’s environment,” said ASC Signal CEO Keith Buckley.

“Harris awarded the subcontract to ASC based on their proven antenna performance and their ability to complete this important NWS program prior to the launch of the GOES-R satellite in 2016,” said Romy Olaisen, vice president, Global Weather Solutions, Harris Government Communications Systems.

ASC Signal’s line of high-performance antennas, from its compact 2.4-meter ESA and extensive line of HF products up to its largest 14-meter ATC earth stations, cover all widely-used commercial and military frequency bands from HF to V-bands. The large number of feed options available on the company’s antennas and the overall flexibility of configurations continue to prove extremely valuable to users of the company’s entire line of antennas on systems in use around the world.  All of the company’s antenna systems utilize ASC's Next Generation Controller (NGC), which gives users a single, simplified, central device to control and operate multiple antenna systems. The NGC’s advanced features include remote access and tracking capabilities built into the system, an internal spectrum analyzer, redundancy control systems, and many other high-performance controller features.
