Comtech Received $6.4 Million Contract Extension for the U.S. Navy's Advanced Time Division Multiple Access Interface Processor Terminals

February 24, 2015

Comtech EF Data Corp., received a $6.4 million contract award extension for the implementation of an Adaptive Coding capability for Advanced Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA) Interface Processor (ATIP) terminals from the Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command (SPAWAR). The ATIP is a Layer-2 Ethernet bridging device installed on ship, shore and submarine platforms in the Navy Multiband Terminal (NMT).

This award provides Adaptive Coding capability to the terminals, which was a planned performance improvement requirement under the existing ATIP contract awarded to Comtech EF Data in April 2013. The initial ATIP program awarded to Comtech EF Data is providing significant improvements to the AEHF system's performance through dynamic bandwidth management, support for higher XRD date rates, and increased throughput capacity. The addition of the Adaptive Coding capability will provide additional performance improvements by dynamically adapting to rapid changes in the physical environment to optimize the system's overall capacity and throughput in those conditions. This will allow the system to take advantage of unused system capacity and throughput under non-challenged environments.

“This award was made possible by our successful completion of the initial ATIP development effort which is now under contract for its first year of production,” commented Dr. Stanton Sloane, President and Chief Executive Officer of Comtech Telecommunications Corp. “We are proud to continue to support and enhance the capabilities of the Navy’s communications system.”
