New Aero Mobile Terminal Brings ViaSat
Ka-band to Large Cabin Business Aircraft
Oct. 16, 2014
Building on
the growth of in-flight data
consumption, ViaSat Inc. is introducing
a Ka-band shipset with a tail-mounted
antenna designed to deliver
high-performance Ka-band mobile services
for general aviation. The Aero Mobile
Terminal 5230 (AMT-5230), already in use
on government aircraft, can bring
unprecedented levels of service
performance to large-cabin business
aircraft.
For an
office-in-the-sky experience with
high-speed internet and VPN, Ka-band for
general aviation can meet the growing
demand for high-volume, on-board data
consumption and transmission, including
numerous wireless devices running
high-bandwidth applications
simultaneously.
"Our Ka-band
coverage is available in
North America and
Europe, where most
business and commercial aircraft are
flying," said
Leo Conboy,
business area director for ViaSat
general aviation. "Our goal for general
aviation is the same as for our
government and commercial air customers
– to provide a great airborne internet
experience that enables them to use the
same applications and services they
already subscribe to, whether they are
on the ground or in the air."
The AMT-5230
is expected to be available through
ViaSat MRO and completion center
resellers beginning in
June 2015.
