Thales Alenia Space
signs Memorandum Of Understanding with BRAZILIAN
SPACE AGENCY
December 12, 2013
Thales Alenia Space announced
today that it has signed a Memorandum of
Understanding (MoU) with the BRAZILIAN SPACE
AGENCY concerning the transfer of space
technologies to Brazil. This agreement
complements a contract signed today by Thales
Alenia Space with Visiona, a joint venture of
Embraer and Telebras, to build the dual-use
telecommunications satellite SGDC (Geostationary
Defense and Strategic Communications Satellite).
Today's accords mark the first important step in
an ambitious partnership between Thales Alenia
Space, the BRAZILIAN SPACE AGENCY and the
Brazilian space industry. Their collaboration
will take shape in the coming months, based on
the technology transfer plan proposed by Thales
Alenia Space, which matches the expectations of
the Brazilian entities involved. The transfers
concern satellite telecommunications,
observation and meteorology, as well as other
areas. They will take place over a period of
five years, in line with the Brazilian
government's planned space projects. This
agreement will provide a solid basis for joint
developments, as well as a long-term structural
partnership.
"We
would like to extend our warm thanks to the
BRAZILIAN SPACE AGENCY for entrusting us with
this mission," said Jean-Loïc Galle, President
and CEO of Thales Alenia Space. "Our people are
already hard at work to support Brazil's space
development strategy, which will ensure the
country's independence and sovereignty in the
medium term."
