MTN Communications Selects Spark's Distrix SDN Platform

Nov. 13, 2013

Leading software networking company Spark Integration Technologies, Inc. "Spark" and MTN  Communications, Inc. "MTN" announced that MTN has selected Spark's award-winning Distrix software defined networking (SDN) platform as one of the enabling solutions for MTN's Nexus™.  MTN's Nexus is the maritime industry's next generation communications eco-system, delivered through the convergence of satellite and terrestrial network access, cloud computing infrastructure, and software development to optimally deliver mobile connectivity for passenger, crew and critical business applications anywhere in the world.

Spark provides a next generation SDN overlay solution specifically designed to enable secure complex network communication across a range of communication technologies including satellite, cellular, microwave, Wi-Fi, and others. Leveraging Distrix, MTN's Nexus will deliver a highly reliable, fast, and protected connection to transparently provide user session continuity across dynamic Internet connectivity methods, without impacting the passenger or crew experience.  As the connection is moved from one network to another based on connection and reliability the seamless smart switching will deliver greater automation, control and management of bandwidth to cruise partners.

"On the leading edge of changes that are coming to both diversified and maritime communications, MTN quickly grasped the value Distrix delivers," said Jay Friedman, President of Spark Integration Technologies.  "We're pleased to help enable its next generation network, MTN Nexus that will deliver service and new products to the cruising industry to more closely match the lifestyle on land"."

"The Distrix platform delivers unique value that created a perfect fit for our needs," said Bob Wise, CIO of MTN.  "This platform gave us a way to deliver a long sought after solution cruise ship lines need to deliver to today's highly connected passengers and crew in a hotly competitive market."
