Globosat,
Brazil’s Pay TV Leader, Chooses NovelSat to Upgrade
Satellite Distribution Network
12 November, 2013
Globosat,
Brazil’s Pay TV market leader, has selected NovelSat to
provide modems to upgrade their vast Latin American
satellite distribution network. With more than 14.5
million subscribers and 46 million viewers, Globosat is
setting the stage with advanced technology to support
their broadcasting of upcoming global sporting events
including the 2014 World Cup and the 2016 Rio Olympics.
Over half a
billion viewers at a time will turn their attention to
Brazil to watch these enormously popular global events.
The satellite communications bandwidth required to
aggregate and deliver day after day of live HD video
content is both scarce and costly. Globosat turned to
NovelSat for the most reliable and cost effective
solution for content contribution and distribution over
satellite.
In addition to
rapid growth in satellite broadcast consumption in
Brazil, Globosat will need to tap into enough
transmission bandwidth to meet the extraordinary needs
of broadcasting live HD coverage of the 2014 World Cup
and 2016 Rio Olympics.
“We had an urgent need to
improve our satellite efficiency, and we came to the
conclusion that NovelSat NS3 technology was the best
solution to go with,” said Lourenco Carvano, Director of
Technology for Globosat.
“While our equipment is
installed in large contribution networks around the
world, this deal represents for us a major video
distribution network win in the strategic Brazilian
market,” said Ron Barak, NovelSat VP Americas. “For
NovelSat, the greatest satisfaction is in knowing that
we can help a giant like Globosat to maintain their
leading position in satellite broadcast performance,
efficiency and viewer satisfaction.”
