Major US
broadcaster selects NovelSat to Upgrade
Satellite Communications in Mobile News Fleet
16 October, 2013
Satellite communications
equipment vendor NovelSat
announced that a major
US broadcaster has selected NovelSat to upgrade
the satellite communication technology in their
global DSNG (Digital Satellite News Gathering)
fleet. They will deploy NovelSat NS3000
satellite modems in all flyaway portable
production facilities for video contribution and
IP communication.
This top broadcasting company
chose to replace existing equipment with modems
from NovelSat, which incorporate NS3 technology,
to reduce the cost of satellite communications
by dropping bandwidth consumption by 47%
compared to their existing system.
Customer testing showed that
under identical conditions the NovelSat NS3
protocol achieved a data transmission rate of
14.72 Mb/s compared to industry standard DVB-S2
at 10.05Mb/s and the DVB-S rate of 5.37 Mb/s.
“Since we launched
NovelSat NS3 satellite communications technology
in 2011, global broadcasters have been flocking
to it,” said Itzik Wulkan, CEO NovelSat. “And
who can blame them? In markets where satellite
bandwidth is at a premium, NovelSat NS3 saves
broadcasters in operations costs, lets them be
more flexible and provides the reliability that
they need for their high-value HD satellite
broadcasts.”
