July 29, 2013
Iridium Communications Inc. announced a multi-year partner
agreement with CalAmp, a leading provider of wireless products,
services and solutions to provide original equipment
manufacturers (OEMs) with reliable, high performance, compact
devices facilitating a wide range of satellite
machine-to-machine (M2M) services, data rates and real-time,
global communications solutions. Iridium will begin to offer its
services leveraging CalAmp's Vanguard mobile wireless broadband
routers and LMU-4520 rugged fleet management devices utilizing
the Iridium Core 9523 transceiver and Iridium 9602 modem.
CalAmp and Iridium deliver a communications solution that
allows companies in the heavy equipment, agriculture, forestry,
mining and construction industries to have greater
communications access across the globe," said Bryan Hartin,
Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Iridium. "By
offering a network that extends coverage to the 90 percent of
the globe not covered by terrestrial services, our partnership
ensures a consistent platform for enabling future solutions and
innovations. With Iridium's next generation satellite
constellation, Iridium NEXT, scheduled to begin launching in
2015, CalAmp's customers can take advantage of global coverage
and support over the long term."
"Whether for transportation, fleet management, or heavy
equipment, our customers depend on CalAmp to deliver highly
reliable and available connectivity to enable comprehensive
access to — and management of — their high-value assets," said
Justin Schmid, Senior Vice President of Marketing and Business
Development for CalAmp. "With Iridium as a partner, we are
confident our satellite M2M customers will have the reliable
connectivity they need to manage their assets anywhere their
businesses demand."
Iridium's M2M growth strategy includes serving
mission-critical enterprise communication needs for OEMs and
after-market solution providers through fleet and vehicle
tracking, heavy equipment, container and mobile asset tracking,
utility, oil and gas, maritime and aviation. Iridium's M2M data
subscribers have grown at a 41 percent compound annual growth
rate since 2008, and now represent approximately 40 percent of
its total customer base. The company now draws nearly one-fifth
of its commercial service revenue from the satellite M2M market
segment.
